What is it used for?

The Whitelist sub-panel allows to make some sites and content freely visible even to users who have not authenticated within the system. The feature allows to provide a service to the guests of the location, allowing them to browse certain sites without forcing them to log in. It can be used with the "Walled Garden" function to make visible any content that does not belong to the URL listed in the Walled Garden and therefore not accessible to users.

It must be noted that, unlike the "Walled Garden" function, the URL entered in the Whitelist are not published on any screen visible to the users.

Whitelist Tools

The Whitelist panel has two different Whitelist lists, both fully configurable by the administrator, and specifically:
  • Domain Whitelist.
  • Whitelist Wildcard.
It must be noted that for both lists it is not necessary to enter the prefixes 'http: //' or 'https: //' before the web address to ensure the functioning of the setting. After entering the desired URL in the lists, just click the "Edit" button to save the settings.

N.B. Although the addresses entered appear immediately in the lists, to make the setting function you will need to wait for provisioning time, that is the memorization time of lists by the gateway. The waiting time will therefore vary from a few minutes to a few hours.

Domain Whitelist
The Domains Whitelist allow users to see the entire contents of a domain, without limitations to the single host of the domain.
For example, by including in the Domains Whitelist the web address www.wifihotel.it, also the contents of blog.wifihotel.it, mail.wifihotel.it and any other hosts will be available and accessible to users, without the need for authentication.
To enter a web address in the Domains Whitelist, just write it into the form of the Whitelist sub-panel.
Please note that you need to write the addresses under each other to obtain the correct functioning of the feature.

Whitelist Wildcard
The Whitelist Wildcard allows users to see the contents of a single domain host, without extending the selection to the entire domain.
For example, by including in the Whitelist Wildcard the web address www.wifihotel.it, the contents of the host blog.wifihotel.it, mail.wifihotel.it or any other hosts in the same domain will not be available and accessible to users.

To enter a web address in the Whitelist Wildcard, simply write it into the form of the Whitelist sub-panel. Please note that you need to write the addresses under each other to obtain the correct functioning of the feature.
